font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px; ">
A standards group on Monday released specifications for a new Universal Serial Bus standard that could speed up data transfers between computers and devices such as digital cameras and flash drives.

The USB 3.0 specification increases bandwidth and transfers data between devices close to 10 times quicker than its predecessor, USB 2.0, said Jeff Ravencraft, president of the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) and senior technology strategist at Intel, during a speech at the USB Superspeed Developers Conference in San Jose, California.

USB ports are used to connect host devices, such as PCs, to other devices such as printers and storage drives. While USB 2.0 provides transfer rates that are enough for most devices today, USB 3.0 will be used in future devices that are more portable and as the use of multimedia applications such as video proliferates, Ravencraft said.

A flash drive based on USB 3.0 can move 1G byte of data to a host device in 3.3 seconds, compared to 33 seconds with USB 2.0, Ravencraft said. That means two full-length movies can be transferred from a portable USB drive to a PC in under a minute.

However, data transfer rates between USB 3.0 devices at booths at the conference seemed to reach about 3G bps (bits per second), which is lower than the 5G-bps transfer rates claimed by USB-IF.

Data overheads could keep raw data transfer speeds from reaching 5G bps, but the new specification is still a big improvement over USB 2.0, said Chuck Tefts, director of sales and marketing at Ellisys, which makes devices to test the USB 3.0 specification. As the specification is further developed and tested, those overheads may be eliminated, increasing data transfer rates, Tefts said.

The new specification adds better power-management features for charging devices and saving power, Ravencraft said. The power delivery envelope has increased, and connected-but-unused USB 3.0 devices can go into a virtual sleep mode.

The USB 3.0 specification also solves the problem of not recognizing battery-sapped devices, Ravencraft said. For example, the specification allows a host device to trickle down power to recognize battery-sapped devices like cell phones, which can then be charged. Devices like MP3 players rely on USB to recharge batteries.

Products with USB 3.0 support will likely enter the market in 2010, Ravencraft said. Flash-based mass storage devices may be first. Meanwhile, the specification has been finalized and is available to device manufacturers to test and implement.

Software needs to support the new protocol for devices to realize the transfer speeds of USB 3.0. Microsoft will support USB 3.0 devices in future Windows operating systems, said Fred Bhesania, program manager at Microsoft. The company is working on a software stack and intends to add USB 3.0 capabilities to the Windows OS in the future, Bhesania said. He did not specify which Windows versions will support USB 3.0.

The new standard is backwards-compatible, so new USB 3.0 devices will support USB 2.0 connections. About 2.5 billion USB-based products ship per year, Ravencraft estimated, so it is important to make the old standard work with new devices.

Courtesy:<a Google released a new feature in GMail whereby you can see if more than one person is logged into your account. So if you are afraid that someone has hacked into your GMail account and is accessing it without your knowledge, you can now actually track who last logged in and if more than one person is logged in at the same time.

First log into your Gmail account and scroll all the way down to the bottom. You’ll see a line that says “Last account activity” and then the information for who logged in and how long ago.

gmail last account activity
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4ChMHrKOHXk/SOmg4gOJ6OI/AAAAAAAAAsc/r7Jr2tmPNyQ/s320/gmaillastaccountactivity.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253907332886816994" />

If you click on Details, you’ll get a popup window with even more detailed information including the device from which Gmail was accessed, i.e. Browser, Google Toolbar, POP3, etc along with the corresponding IP addresses.

gmail account tracking
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4ChMHrKOHXk/SOmhH5ny6ZI/AAAAAAAAAsk/umb1KSH0OyY/s320/gmailaccounttracking-thumb.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253907597403285906" />

If someone else logs into my Gmail account from a different computer while you are logged in, it will show that information along with the IP address at the bottom of your GMail window.

gmail multiple people logged in

As you can see, I have Gmail open in another location and the IP address is 209.177.243.246. If the person logged in is unauthorized, you can click on Details and then click on the Sign out all other sessions button.

This is a great feature because it can quickly help you discover a hacked or compromised Gmail account. If you see any suspicious IP addresses in the list, make sure to look up the location of the IP address to see if it is someone else or just another location you have logged in from.

If that is the case, make sure to sign out all other sessions and to change your password immediately.
ARE U PEOPLE CONFUESED WITH , WHICH IS BETTER TECNOLOGY(GSM OR CDMA)

Which Technology is Better: GSM or CDMA?

Introduction
Before deciding which technology is superior, let's talk a little more about these two tecnologies:

CDMA: stands for Code Division Multiple Access. Both data and voice are separated from signals using codes and then transmited using a wide frequency range. Because of this, there are more space left for data transfer (this was one of the reasons why CDMA is the prefered technology for the 3G generation, which is broadband access and the use of big multimedia messages). 14% of the worldwide market goes to CDMA. For the 3G generation CDMA uses 1x EV-DO and EV-DV. It has a lot of users in Asia, specially in South Korea.

GSM: stands for Global System Mobile. Even though it is sold as "the latest technology" in several countries, this technology is older than CDMA (and also TDMA). But keep in mind that this doesn't mean that GSM is inferior or worse than CDMA. Roaming readiness and fraud prevention are two major advantages from this technology. GSM is the most used cell phone technology in the world, with 73% of the worldwide market. It has a very strong presence in Europe.
TDMA technology is the less used from the three main digital technologies (GSM, CDMA and TDMA) and we think it will gradually be replaced to CDMA or GSM. That's why the GSM vs CDMA war. At one corner, GSM operators say it is better "because it uses a SIM chip, it is the most used technology worldwide, it is more secure and it is more advanced". On the other corner, CDMA followers say it is better "because it is the 3G generation chosen technology and GSM will migrate to CDMA since CDMA is more advanced..."

But which one of these statements are correct? Acordingly to Nokia, "this discussion is not about technology anymore, but about market". We think this is the best way to describe the war between these two cell phone technologies.

In the beginning, GSM was in fact superior. It had more services and allowed more data transfer. But CDMA, facing the advantages of the competitor standard, soon delivered the same features found on GSM. Nowadays, it is not possible to say that GSM services are better than CDMA. Multimedia messages, video, high-speed Internet access, digital camera and even PDA function are some of the features we can found on both technologies. The new CDMA 1XRTT technology, which previews what G3 cell phones will bring, is more advanced than EDGE, technology from the beginning of 3G generation, allowing higher transfer rates.

Even the GSM SIM card advantage, that allows you to change your cell phone and keep your phone list, is being surplaced by some CDMA operators with a service that allows you to store your phone book on the operator's database, allowing you to recover your phone book even if your cell phone is stolen (which is not possible with GSM, since if your cell phone is stolen, your SIM card will be stolen together). Notice that recently a new accessory called SIM backup was released, which allows you to backup the data stored in your SIM card. Also some GSM operators are offering a similar backup service.

So, nowadays both technologies are equiparated in technology, but this picture won't be like that in the future. Afterall, CDMA evolution ground is wider and in a few years it will be superior than GSM. This means that GSM operators will disapear? Not at all. They will migrate over CDMA and the war will continue, because the existing CDMA operators chose to use 1xEV-DO and1XEV-DV technologies for their 3G network and the existing GSM operators have opted for a different technology, called WCDMA. Also, even though the current GSM operators will migrate to WCDMA, they still can use their existing GSM network. So users won't feel anything special when the operators shift to the new cell generation (3G), independently from the technology they choose.

Glossary
AMPS: stands for Advanced Mobile Phone Service. Analog cell system.
TDMA: stands for Time Division Multiple Access. It works by dividing the spectrum into frequency channels and each user uses each channel for a specific time, to avoid interference.
CDMA 1XRTT: Second generation technology (2.5G, actually) which allows data transfers up to 144 Kbps.
EDGE: stands for Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution. Technology promoted by GSM operators. Before migrating to WCDMA, EDGE will allow third generation data and voice access with 384 kbps transfer rate.
EV-DO: Third generation (3G) from CDMA 1xEV-DO technology. "EV" comes from and "DO" from data-only. It uses a second channel, of 1.25 MHz, exclusively for data transmission. Some countries are already running this standard. In the USA, Verizon and Sprint started this technology in 2004. This tecnology allows hi-speed Internet access (2.4 Mbps) using the cell phone or using a wireless connection from a laptop or PDA.
EV-DV: Evolution of EV-DO, but still under development. For example, to download songs from Namaste London, search on YouTube and you get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfL99qNRIzM.
Now add "Kiss" as shown below and you are all set to download.http://www.kissyoutube.com/watch?v=QfL99qNRIzM

You need a "FLV" player to play these videos. Download "FLV Player" here.

Maximize YouTube or Online Flash Video Viewing Experience:

In India we still lack really good broadband connections. So how to view YouTube video without any interruption ? As soon as you open the video, hit the pause button. By doing so the video will get buffered and you can see the progress bar advancing. Once the entire video is buffered, you can then click Play and ENJOY!!!

7 Simple ways to work fast on slow Internet connections

Microsoft's simple 7 optimizations

Summary :

1. Sending multiple file faster by compressing .
2. Turning images and flash can boost faster loading .
3. Sending E-mail using Distribution list
4. Working Offline Using Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook
5. Reducing E-Mail Size With Simple E-Mail Signatures
6. Browsing offline by saving web pages on Your computer
7. Open Web Pages Faster by Increasing Your Cache

In Details :
1. Sending multiple file faster by compressing .

If you're sending multiple files—for example several files related to a project—you can reduce their combined size by using a compression utility. Compressing your files can dramatically reduce the time needed to send files online, and won't take up as much space in your (or the recipient's) e-mail Inbox. WinZip is one of the most common compression tools.

2. Turning images and flash can boost faster loading .

Graphics are important to Web pages, but they also take time to download if you're online. You can turn them off to speed your Internet browsing.

To disable graphics in Internet Explorer:

1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Settings box, scroll down to the Multimedia section. Clear the following boxes.

* Play animations in Web pages
* Play sounds in Web pages
* Play videos in Web pages
* Show pictures

4 . Click Apply.

3 . Sending E-mail using Distribution list

If you're sending an e-mail to multiple people, create a distribution list instead of listing each recipient separately. Messages are sent faster and more efficiently when you're using a distribution list. Your company may have established procedures for creating mailing lists.

4 .Working Offline Using Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook

Even if you lose your network connection, you can continue to working in Outlook if you're using Cached Exchange Mode. With Cached Exchange Mode, a copy of your mailbox is stored on your computer. This copy provides quick access to your data and is frequently updated with the mail server. If you work offline, whether by choice or due to a connection problem, your data is still available to you instantly wherever you are. Cached Exchange Mode does require you to work with a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account.

5 .Reducing E-Mail Size With Simple E-Mail Signatures

E-mail signatures leave a professional stamp on your messages, but elaborate signatures that include multiple images take up a lot of unnecessary storage space in each e-mail. Ultimately, they can slow down the time needed to send each message. Instead create distinctive text signatures combining fonts, type sizes, and colors to make your e-mail signature smaller and quicker to transmit and receive.

6.Browsing offline by saving web pages on Your computer

If you use reference a Web page often, save it locally to your computer. If you lose your connection or are working on a slow connection, you'll still be able to read and find the information you need.

To save a Web page on your computer:

1. In Internet Explorer, go to the Web page you want to save.
2. On the File menu, click Save As.
3. In the Save As type drop-down menu, select Web page, complete.
4. Click Save.

7. Open Web Pages Faster by Increasing Your Cache

If you increase the size of the Temporary Internet files cache in Internet Explorer, your computer won't have to work so hard when you revisit Web pages. Many of the images will already be downloaded on your computer, decreasing the amount of time it takes to open a page.

To increase the Temporary Internet Files cache:

1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
3. In the Temporary Internet files folder section, set the Amount of disk space to use: to at least 250 megabytes (MB).
5. Click OK.

Get Live Bangalore Traffic

Hai all
U can get the information about the live traffic in Bangalore

Excel shortcut and function keys

CTRL combination shortcut keys
Key Description
CTRL+( Unhide any hidden rows within the selection.
CTRL+) Unhide any hidden columns within the selection.
CTRL+& Applies the outline border to the selected cells.
CTRL+_ Removes the outline border from the selected cells.
CTRL+~ Applies the General number format.
CTRL+$ Applies the Currency format with two decimal places (negative numbers in parentheses).
CTRL+% Applies the Percentage format with no decimal places.
CTRL+^ Applies the Exponential number format with two decimal places.
CTRL+# Applies the Date format with the day, month, and year.
CTRL+@ Applies the Time format with the hour and minute, and AM or PM.
CTRL+!
If you want to search for a phrase, where all the words appear together then use quotes around them.
For eg: If you want to search "India technology bloggers" as one phrase do a search as shown below:

"India technology bloggers"

else Google will find matches where the keywords - India, technology and bloggers, appear anywhere on the page.

2.How to specify that any one word or phrase is acceptable, in your search?

By default Google will search for all your keywords as Google's boolean default is "AND". If you prefer to specify that any one word or phrase is acceptable, put an OR(in uppercase) or "|" between each keyword:

a) India OR "technology bloggers" or
b) India | "technology bloggers"

Note: A lower case or does not work correctly.

3.How to search for a particular term along with two or more other terms?

Group the other terms within parentheses, as below:
India ("photo bloggers" OR "technology bloggers")

The above query searches for the phrase "photo bloggers" or "technology bloggers" along with the word "India"

4.How to specify that a particular item must not appear in your search results?

The following will search for pages that contain both the word "India" and the phrase "technology bloggers" but not the word "science"

India "technology bloggers" -"science"

Note: The "-" symbol must appear directly before the word or phrase that you don't want. However place a space before the "-" symbol.

5.How to include stop words in your search?

Google will ignore words like "I," "a," "the," and "of," as these are considered too common and are called stop words. However you can force Google to take a stop word into account by prepending a + (plus) character, as in:

+the "technology bloggers"

however stop words that appear inside of phrase searches are not ignored.Hence

"the move" glam

will result in a more accurate list of matches than:

the move glam

6.What is a synonym operator?

The Google synonym operator, the ~ (tilde) character, prepended to any number of keywords in your query, will return not only exact matches, but also what google thinks are synonyms for each of the keywords you are Searching for:

~film

turns up results for film, movie, TV, video and others (both singular and plural forms) of the film or related family, as if you'd searched for:

film movie TV video

Note: Google figures out synonyms algorithmically. So you do find results for some words you never have thought to include in your query.

7.How to specify a range in your search?

For eg: if you're looking for a 3 to 5 Megapixel digital SLR camera and whose price is in the range $800 to $1,000 then you should search like this:

slr digital camera 3..5 megapixel $800..1000

Note: You should provide some clue as to the meaning of the range, e.g., $, size, megapixel, kg, and so forth.

If you want to find a slr digital camera that is atleast 3 megapixel

slr digital camera 3.. megapixel

or a slr digital camera that is not more than 5 megapixel

slr digital camera ..5 megapixel

Remember that Google search is case-insensitive and it normally does not recognize special characters like $.But if the $ sign was necessary for the number feature, then you can use it in all sorts of searches.Happy Googling

Electronics Teacher

A portal dedicated to Electronic Students and Professionals.

Nanotechnology

The design also includes support for multiple threads for better performance and increased system responsiveness. All of this on a chip that measures less than 25 mm, making it Intel’s smallest and lowest power processor yet. Up to 11 Intel Atom processor die — the tiny slivers of silicon packed with 47 million transistors each — would fit in an area the size of an American penny.

These new chips, previously codenamed Silverthorne and Diamondville, will be manufactured on Intel’s industry-leading 45nm process with hi-k metal gate technology. The chips have a thermal design power (TDP) specification in 0.6-2.5 watt range and scale to 1.8GHz speeds depending on customer need. By comparison, today’s mainstream mobile Core 2 Duo processors have a TDP in the 35-watt range.

The Atom chip is squarely targeted at MIDs (mobile internet devices), “netbooks,” & “nettops” (basic internet PCs). That last part interests me ~ the basic internet PCs —~ because I bet we will start seeing $200 to $300 usd desktops that don’t look like a cheap pile of crap & sound like a 747 taking off.

They will probably be a lot smaller & cuter, similar to the Zonbu desktop PC. & they might (might) finally make their way closer & closer to the living room.

Welcome to the Tech FAQ!

At the Tech FAQ, the technical answers you have been looking for are answered in detail, yet in a way the average person can understand. For example, if you are writing an email inquiring about the price of a particular product, naturally you’ll send it to sales@example.com, and then you might want to send a carbon copy to your supervisor - supervisor@yourdomain.com, telling him that you’re doing your job.

so when the sales department in the other company responded, your supervisor will be able to read the reply as well. So everybody in the cc list is able to know each other email address when they receive it.

bcc: stands for blind carbon copy - basically is the same with cc: but with a little twist, the bcc: receiver just receive a copy of the email, and he can’t read other email addresses in the list. So in a nutshell, bcc offers more privacy than cc because the email address of the recipient is protected from each other.

Hope that helps clears up some questions

Start a movie in paint!

Start movie in Paint!
* First start a movie in any player.

* Then open Paint.

* Now, in the player when the movie is being played, press "Print screen" button on your key board.

* Now, Press ctrl+v in Paint

* Leave the movie player open and don't minimize it.

* Open Paint now and see the movie in the Paint!

Improve your Memory with a good night's Sleep.....

Sleep is essential for memory consolidation as well as overall health. Research suggests that six to eight hours of sleep a night is ideal for most people. Perhaps even more important than the amount of sleep is the quality of sleep. For better sleep and memory, try the following:
‧ Establish and maintain a consistent sleep schedule and routine. Go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning.
‧ Plan to do your most vigorous exercise early in the day. Exercising in the hours immediately before bedtime causes physiological changes that interfere with sleep.
‧ Avoid coffee and other sources of caffeine (e.g., chocolate, many soft drinks, some brands of aspirin, many types of tea) after midmorning, because caffeine is a stimulant that can keep you awake for hours afterward.
‧ Avoid napping during the daytime. Napping can disrupt your natural sleep cycle and prevent you from feeling tired enough to fall asleep at night.
‧ Don't take sleeping pills unless nothing else works. If you do take a prescription sleep medicine, work with your doctor to use it effectively but only on a short-term basis.
‧ Don't try to sleep if you're not tired; otherwise you'll set yourself up for tossing and turning. If you're still awake after about 20 minutes in bed, get up and read awhile to relax.

Mathematics Magic

<span style="font-size: 85%; It won't make you into a computer technician, but it will let you talk to one without thinking they are speaking a foreign language. The computers we are interested in are the general-purpose personal computers like we use at our desk, rather than the specialized computer under the hood of your car, or the big mainframe computers that the IRS uses to keep track of us all.

Free Engineering Video Lectures

This time a bunch of video lectures from the wide field of engineering!

Basic Electronics

Electronics Video Course (40 video lectures)

Course syllabus:
1. Close all open programs. (Click Start > Run and type CMD to open a command prompt.)
* Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE. (Or just click Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the Task Manager.)
* Go to the Processes tab and click End Process on Explorer.exe. Leave Task Manager open.
* Go back to the Command Prompt window and use the CD command to get 2 the directory with the bad file.
* At the command prompt type DEL and where the file you wish to delete is.
* Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell. Close Task Manager.

Now this may not always work, but it should more often than not. The other option is a freeware application that can close the file for you. Unlocker is just such a beast. Install the application, then when you encounter one of those “file in use” errors, just right-click the file and select Unlocker. Click Unlock All and the files will be taken care of. No command line required.
